An existing coach house was demolished to make way for a new family house on a steeply sloping site in a conservation area. The house has a modest appearance set back from the street and is subordinate to the main Victorian dwelling. However it exploits the level change to provide extensive family accommodation to the rear on a series of terraces. The steel staircase was pre-fabricated by Andrew Sabin, sculptor, and craned into position before the roof was constructed.
The adjacent house has been sub-divided into six flats, whilst retaining the historic character and features of the Victorian mansion. The garden has been lowered to give light to two new lower ground floor flats. A penthouse on the top floor and attic has a roof terrace discretely recessed into the roof profile.
