In May 2013 a serious fire broke out and rendered the house unoccupiable. Considerable fire and smoke damage occurred and the Drawing Room, front window and porch were destroyed, but fortunately the structural damage was slight and many of the period features remained virtually unharmed beneath the layers of smoke.
The features that could be salvaged were painstakingly repaired and components that were beyond repair were reproduced accurately, under the direction of project manager Peter Fox of Tp2mc, Specialist Conservation Architect Janie Price of Kennedy O’Callaghan Architects, conservation engineers The Morton Partnership and services consultant Blair Thompson.
